Gus, the Farm Cat
Enid, the Farm Dog
The story of how we came up with the name Gus & Enid's comes from two of our beloved one-of-a-kind farm animals who are no longer with us. We felt this was a great way to honor them and keep their memory alive on the farm as we loved them dearly.
Gus was one of our farm cats. His name came from the movie Lonesome Dove. He would wander the farm all day with his brothers, ride on the equipment, and then go about his business. Gus would make his rounds while Derek and I discussed the day and what tomorrow might bring and then get held like a baby before he would crate up for the night.

Enid was one of our farm dogs and came to the farm with Derek McAllister. His name came from an old cowboy Derek worked with. Since Derek was the only full-time employee and did virtually everything himself, Enid was the farmhand that Derek needed to help him on his daily adventures. He only had to be fed and given some attention when he wanted to be a puppy. Enid was going to be a great cow pup, but unfortunately, that was not able to happen when he passed.

Gus & Enid will now live on through the name of our business and always be remembered with love.

Travis Stewart, Owner

I have always had a full-time job but have raised cattle most of my life to some extent. Having good people work for me over the years has allowed me to expand the cattle operation and still have a full-time job. When I’m not at my other job I am at the farm helping where I can. We work countless hours caring for everything and the last few years we have felt we made enough progress with our genetics to start sharing the product with everyone.

Derek McAllister, Cow Herd Manager

Derek has worked at the farm for almost 8 years. Before coming to work here Derek spent some time in the Panhandle of Texas riding pens at multiple feedlots and day working on ranches. Originally from Illinois, his family moved back to Illinois, and luckily our paths crossed. He is a very loyal employee and works countless hours caring for the cows and making sure everything gets done daily. With me having a full-time job Derek also is usually the face of the operation on a daily basis.
Lane McAllister, Cow Herd

Lane is Derek’s son and has helped around the farm since Derek came to work with us. He helps with the daily operations when he isn’t going to school. He is learning well from his Dad and becoming a good young man.

Pepper, Cow Herd Dog

Pepper took over for Enid and has been with us since June 2021. Pepper is coming along with his training and is going to be a good cow dog with more training. When he isn’t helping work cows he enjoys playing around the farm. He helps all of us enjoy the long days!
